They join, and wait
The member is given an Unverified role and can see one channel: a read-only #verify that Nyra creates, closes every other channel to, and pins the instructions in. They are sent the same instructions by DM.
A ban only works if the person cannot walk back in under a new name. Nyra holds every new member until they verify on a page that recognises a returning browser, device and connection — and turns the second account away before it is ever inside.

No sign-in, no OAuth, nothing to install. The page says what it records before it records anything, and records nothing until they press the button.
Their connection, a random id left in the browser, and what the browser reports about the device. All three are hashed with a secret before they leave the page — nothing raw is ever stored, and a hash cannot be turned back.
Over the server's account limit, or matching someone already banned there, and they are turned away. Otherwise they are let in and the hold is lifted.
A shared network on its own is a household, a school or a phone carrier. Matching on it bans siblings and flatmates, and a tool that does that gets turned off within a week. So every match carries a strength, and the server chooses how much it takes.
Only the same browser counts. Almost never wrong — and someone who switches browser gets through.
The same browser, or the same device on the same network. Catches most alts without flagging a family.
Also a shared network, or a matching device on a different one. Catches alts behind a VPN, and will flag siblings and school Wi-Fi too — expect appeals.
Matched accounts can be linked. Ban one and the rest go with it, for the same reason — and if you unban one, Nyra can lift the others too.
Anyone caught gets a button to say these accounts are not the same person. The appeal lands in your queue with the evidence beside it, and accepting it stops those two accounts ever being matched again.
A server can refuse to verify anyone connecting through a VPN, proxy or Tor — the usual way an alt gets a fresh address.
Switching it on late does not lock out the server. Existing members are asked the next time they speak, with a deadline you set.
The log card names the accounts that matched and why — “same browser”, “same device, same network” — and never the hashes behind it.
Hashes are kept for twelve months and compared only against other accounts checked the same way. Asking for your data to be deleted removes them immediately.
One button makes the Unverified role and the #verify channel, closes every other channel to that role and posts the instructions. Detection and blocking are free; linking, higher account limits, VPN blocking and strictness are Nyra Pro.
